glashard 2008
Glashard was a performance-installation on the subject of the heartbeat. The performance took place in two spaces simultaneously at Maakhaven ateliers during Ground3 Festival in The Hague.
In the upstairs room the lights, sound and household appliances reacted to the variations in the heart rate of the performer who was electronically connected to his habitat. Visitors could witness the ways in which the man and his environment tried to influence each-other's internal world.
Around the large industrial hall four performers were stationed. Each had a different task: the first was moving in slow-motion, the second subjected himself to extreme cold, the third did yoga exercises and the fourth ate large amounts of chocolate while listening to opera. All four offered their heart to people passing by who could listen to it with a stethoscope. Visitors were invited to pick up a stethescope to walk around the space while listening to the beat of their own heart.
